The Els Center of Excellence is a project of the Els for Autism Foundation. The Foundation is a public charity, recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations in support of the Center should be made out to the Els for Autism Foundation.

When will The Els Center of Excellence (ECOE) open?

The Els Center of Excellence opened in August of 2015.  Initially, the campus will comprise two buildings; the Center’s administrative building, which also houses its auditorium and conference center, and the Lower School, which provides services to approximately 115 Palm Beach County Public School students, ages 3 to 14.

The Upper School is planned and construction will begin soon.

Who will be served at the ECOE?

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder ages 16 months through adulthood will be served through a variety of programs and services. Many of the programs will also be open to the community for people of all ages and abilities.

What are the names of the schools at the ECOE?

The Lower School is called The Learning Center at The Els Center of Excellence.  It was formerly known as the Renaissance Learning Center.

The Upper School, currently known as the Renaissance Learning Academy is located off campus. Construction on the Upper School will begin soon.

How do I apply to have my child attend the schools at the Els Center of Excellence?

The application process is handled entirely by the public charter schools that operate at the Center. No Foundation employee can affect the outcome of any application to enroll. Parents who are interested in applying for place for their child are encourage to read the information about how to apply that is posted on the schools’ websites. Additional questions about the application process should be directed to the schools.

Who is eligible to attend the schools at the ECOE?

Applications are accepted for students with an eligibility of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) on their IEP (Individual Educational Plan) who reside in Palm Beach County. When a spot becomes available, students matching the profile of the opening spot (age, ability, individualized needs) are selected from the waiting list. If more than one student on the waiting list meets the criteria for that spot, a lottery system determines who is offered the opening. For more information please visit the websites listed above.

Is there a waiting list?

Yes, there is a waiting list for both the Lower School and the Upper School. Admissions are based on a lottery system and peer to peer match. For further details, please visit the websites listed above.

What is the fee/tuition to attend the schools at the ECOE?

The schools are independent public charter schools and therefore, are FREE of charge.

Will you provide transportation for students?

Transportation will not be provided for students.

Will the school provide afterschool care?

Yes, the school does have before-school and after-school programs..

Can students from other schools attend the afterschool program?

During 2015, afterschool services will be limited to students attending the Lower School. The Els Center of Excellence will be providing afterschool enrichment classes in the areas of visual and performing arts, and health and fitness. Will you have summer camp?

The Lower School will continue to have a summer camp for students attending the school at the ECOE. Summer camp for the community will commence in 2016.

Will you have programs and services open to the public or will the services only be for the students at the school?

Various programs and services will be open to the public including afterschool enrichment classes, Saturday enrichment programs, and early intervention services commencing in the Fall of 2015. What programs and services will the ECOE offer for adults with ASD?

The Els Center of Excellence will have a full service adult transition building in the coming years. Until that time, the Center will offer various programs to meet the needs of adults on the spectrum. The first program will be Music Therapy group sessions starting in late August 2015. Can I tour the ECOE campus?

Are there any volunteer opportunities?
